ALL-NEW SUZUKI RMX450Z OFF-ROAD MODEL

June 25th 2009

Suzuki announced today the introduction of the 2010 RMX450Z off-road model. This all-new model will share core technology with Suzuki’s winning open-class RM-Z450 motocrosser, featuring electronic fuel injection, a torquey 449cc liquid-cooled 4-stroke engine and wider ratio 5-speed transmission.

The frame, suspension and bodywork are nearly identical to the RM-Z450, the whole package being finely tuned for maximum off-road performance through features including an 18” rear wheel, a full-function instrument cluster and convenient electric start.
Announced today, the 2010 RMX450Z is not scheduled to be released in Australia until very late 2009.

Whilst Suzuki Australia understands strong market demand for this model, the current economic climate and high cost of compliance modifications prevents the development of an Australian spec model that meets Australian Design Rules. Suzuki Australia will continue to evaluate the potential of a commercially viable street-legal version however the 2010 RMX450Z will not be ADR compliant.

The DR-Z400E, Australia’s best-selling dirt bike in 2009 will continue to be imported and marketed as our street-legal trail/enduro model. Limited stocks of the 2010 RMX450Z are scheduled to arrive towards the end of this year. Pricing details will be confirmed closer to the release date.

REVAMPED 2010 RM-Z450 NOW AVAILABLE

Two years after revolutionising the motocross world with its fuel injected engine, Suzuki’s championship winning RM-Z450 motocrosser has raised the bar again with the new 2010 model boasting a host of upgrades.

With other manufacturers still playing catch up, the new 2010 model has received a range of significant upgrades, including a further improved engine, a new frame and new suspension, set to keep the RM-Z450 at the front of the field.

Further enhancing throttle response and power throughout its rev range, the 449cc engine features a new cylinder head, piston, camshafts, valve springs, crankshaft and throttle body.

Pioneered by Suzuki, the electronic fuel injection system (EFI) is even better with reversed throttle valve movement, directing the mist away from the valve to produce more power and enhanced throttle response.

The perfect match for a potent engine, 2010 RM-Z racers will benefit from significant chassis and suspension development.
A new, more rigid, twin spar aluminium frame is accompanied by a new subframe, linkage and rear swingarm, and enhanced race bred Showa suspension to help provide sharper handling, improved manoeuvrability and maximum traction.

With revised spring rates and damping rates at each end, the Showa 47mm inverted forks are fully adjustable for rebound and compression settings, while the rear shock offers rebound, high and low speed compression and spring preload settings.

The new RM-Z450 also features new radiators and significant electrical upgrades including ECU revisions, as part of the ultimate motocross weapon.
Now available, Suzuki’s 2010 RM-Z450 sports an aggressive look with new black and red graphics adorning Suzuki Champion Yellow livery. Stock is available now.

2010 RM-Z450L0 Key Features:

  • 449cm3 4-stroke liquid-cooled DOHC engine featuring the first fuel injection on a production motocross bike. The fuel-injection system uses technology from Suzuki’s championship-winning models - the GSX-R supersport bikes and the QuadRacer R450 ATV.
  • The engine's all-round power characteristics present strong "roll-on" power and responsive low-to-mid range powerband.
  • The innovative lightweight battery-less electronic fuel injection system uses KEIHIN throttle body with progressive throttle linkage, built specifically for motocross, makes for efficient low-throttle power delivery.
  • 18-pin magneto senses feedback on crankshaft position, rotation speed and stroke for the ECU to calculate optimum injection and ignition timings.
  • Single-phase all-charging system, with the magneto supplying all the necessary electric power.
  • Suzuki Advanced Sump System (SASS) with separate crankshaft and transmission compartments allows a highly compact, short and low-slung engine.
  • Aluminium cylinder with Suzuki Composite Electrochemical Material (SCEM) coating, built for durability, light weight and efficient heat transfer.
  • 5-speed transmission provides extra flexibility, offering gear ratios suited for various terrains and conditions.
  • Link-type shifting system offers smooth transitions through the gears.
  • Hot starter positioned on the right handlebar, helping allow rider's left hand to focus on clutch operation.
  • Slim chassis design makes for a slim riding position, opening up the cockpit to help allow the rider to actively take control of the machine.
  • Lightweight twin-spar aluminium frame built with racing feedback for corner-railing, whoops-blazing rides and agile handling on various terrains.
  • Inverted twin-chamber SHOWA front forks and piggyback-reservoir SHOWA rear shock absorber, both designed focused on lightweight and smooth shock absorption.
  • Lightweight swingarm helps enhance terrain-traversing performance over bumps.
  • Race-inspired disc rotors offer enhanced cooling performance and efficient mud slinging.
  • Factory aluminium fuel tank holds 6.2 litres.
  • The footpegs are positioned with ample clearance from the mounting brackets to help prevent mud from caking up.
  • Sloped-down front fender and front number plate air-duct shaping help guide fresh air to the radiators for enhanced cooling performance.
  • Air intakes shaped on to both sides of the rear fender help heighten intake efficiency.
  • Stylish two-tone radiator shrouds accentuate the RM-Z450's agile looks.
